How do you define your personal style?
My style has a very collected look. I love mixing things up. I shop at flea markets whenever I travel and I’m at our local Alameda flea market once a month. In the last few years I’ve started mixing in some fresh modern furniture and accessories.
What’s the last thing you bought for yourself that you really love?
I was just at a consignment shop near my home and I bought these lovely embroidered black high heels.
What’s the thing you’d really love to buy next?
I’m always looking for furniture for our home. I love a good DIY project, so it would be great to find something that I could put my stamp on. A console table with great bones would be high on my list!
What’s your oldest possession, something you would hate to part with?
I have a wonderful old oil painting that now hangs in our bedroom that I picked up at the flea market when I was in my 20’s. It’s a funny story because I had vivid dreams about an imaginary painting that had a very tropical theme focused on a palm tree. Lo and behold I’m at a flea market a few years later and a painting nearly exactly like the one in my dreams is there, but before I can get to it another customer has picked it up. After a lot of drama (I didn’t want him to see me drooling over it so I “hid” at another booth and fell over a rack of old bicycles.) He finally put it down and I got it! This would be a hard thing to ever part with.
What’s something about you most people would be surprised to hear?
It would probably surprise you to know that as an adult I was really into martial arts. Sometimes when I came home at night after a practice I’d be pretty “amped up” and I would make my poor husband get out of bed and let me practice flipping him.
What is your favorite place?
I love being home. I decorate our house so every room makes you feel warm and comfortable.
What’s your favorite meal and where do you like to have it?
We were in Italy a few years ago on business with clients outside of Milan. They took us to a very unassuming restaurant that was part of an old gas station. Everyone ordered a pasta dish that was an amazing version of an Alfredo. The most delicious part of it was that it was served in individual bowls that were made of crusty parmesan cheese. Heavenly. Seriously.
What are you currently reading, watching or checking out online?
I’m in a book club and we just finished reading “I Am Malala.” My husband and I have been engrossed in “House of Cards.” I am a Pinterest addict. I go on there nearly every day to see what’s new.
If you hadn’t chosen the career you have, what would you have been instead?
I might have been an event planner. It would incorporate a lot of the things that I love to do. It would be fun to dream up out-of-the-box ways to develop events of a lifetime.
