Bolts of our newest fabric collection, Kumari Garden, arrived straight from the mill the other day! We’re always excited here in the studio when fabric comes in because it means we get to cut, sew, glue, and play with all of these patterns.
It’s a fun design process, too. I started painting Kumari Garden way back at the beginning of this year. After everything is designed, we send out the files to Free Spirit Fabrics, and although there are a couple of color reviews, we get so busy here that it’s always a big surprise when the final product arrives months later. Now I get to decide whether I want to make a dress, pillows, a new coat for Ruby, or all of these things! Ok, who are we kidding – I want all of them.
Kumari Garden was inspired by the feeling of an Indian market: hot pink saris in the golden sun, peacocks, garlands of flowers, and detailed patterns everywhere. I’m not yet sure when it will be in stores, but I’ll let you know when I find out!
